Aspen Technology Posts First-Quarter Loss but Beats Estimates
CAMBRIDGE, MA Aspen Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: AZPN), the leading supplier of manufacturing enterprise optimization solutions for the process industries, today announced results for its first quarter ended September 30, 1999. Total revenues for the first quarter of fiscal 2000 increased 13.4% to $53.0 million, from the same period in fiscal 1999. For the three months ended September 30, 1999, software license revenue increased 34.2% to $21.5 million, as compared with the first quarter of fiscal 1999, while services revenue rose to $31.5 million. Manugistics Takes Another Hit on Earnings as CFO Resigns
September 15, 1999 07:45 AM ROCKVILLE, Md., Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Manugistics Group, Inc. MANU today reported quarterly revenues and earnings for the period ended August 31, 1999. For its second quarter, Manugistics generated revenues of $33.8 million. The company reported a net loss for the quarter of approximately $3.4 million, or $.13 per basic and diluted share compared to a net loss of $6.0 million, or $.23 per basic and diluted share, in the same quarter in the prior year.

Is SAP Stumbling? Perhaps.
Business applications market leader SAP reported a 43% drop in net income for its first quarter ended March 31, despite a 10% increase in revenue. In a separate announcement, SAP also said that Kevin McKay, head of SAP's U.S. operations, has resigned for personal reasons.

Tibco Takes a Pragmatic Approach to Multicasting
Tibco Software and Cisco Systems have co-designed a network delivery method called the PGM (Pragmatic General Multicast) protocol. PGM allows a server to transmit a multicast message only once. The PGM software will then ensure delivery to all of the intended recipients. This is a much-awaited improvement on the existing multicast protocol, where the server has to transmit the message to each client individually, which increases the load on the network.
