Business Intelligence Success, Lessons Learned
Is business intelligence (BI) an application that pays off? We have all heard mixed results but a 2003 extensive study on on-line analytical processing (OLAP) states that BI usually pays off over 60 percent of the time , explains where the value is found, and describes what’s required to get the pay off.

OLAP WIKI: 269 pages industry report, OLAP 3 that was published in November 2003 by Nigel Pendse explains that BI benefits are very real. While the report covers many aspects of OLAP and BI, we will focus on business benefits and overcoming the obstacles of achieving those benefits. According to the report, approximately 19 percent of companies implementing BI claim they have met or exceeded their business goals. Over 60 percent state they have at least largely met their goals. As always, soft benefits were more

Contemporary Business Intelligence and Its Main Components
Business intelligence (BI) represents the tools and systems that play a key role in the strategic planning process by allowing a company to manipulate corporate data for decision-making. But what exactly are the primary components of BI?

OLAP WIKI: representations for each combination. OLAP is often used in data mining tools, which is a class of database applications that look in a group of data for hidden patterns that can be used to predict future behavior. For example, data mining can help retail companies find customers with common interests. However, the term is commonly misused to describe software that presents data in new ways. True data mining software does not just change the presentation, but actually discovers previously unknown

Moving to the Cloud: Understanding the Total Cost of Ownership
Before adopting any applications for key business functions, executives should perform a thorough total cost of ownership (TCO) analysis. Unfortunately, apples-to-apples comparisons can prove challenging. While it may be tempting to compare the initial license price of on-premises software to the annual subscription fees for cloud computing, this methodology fails to account for the ongoing internal operating costs for the on-premises software. Beyond direct software and hardware purchase and implementation costs, it’s also important for organizations to consider additional business drivers, including infrastructure and resource overhead, maintenance costs, ongoing operations, flexibility, and risk. Download this paper to learn more about how you can estimate the true TCO of cloud applications versus traditional on-premise software.
