The Power of One
The typical mid-market company that has roughly $350 million in annual revenue, has not fully automated its business processes, and would gladly give up its legacy systems if everything could work from one server, and give the executives the information they need in the process. Another opinion in the dilemma - the one-stop shop versus best-of breed concept.

ONE SUN: The Power of One The Power of One Brion Schweers - August 27, 2003 Read Comments Introduction So many articles today discuss the capabilities of integration services and their ability to tie together information from multiple disparate systems. In the marketplace there are stand-alone products, provided by companies like Tibco and Vitria that perform these services, and it seems that all of the major ERP vendors now have an integration story of their own. The focus on integration stems from the fact that

Sun Buys Cobalt
Sun has finally decided to move into the server appliance arena, by purchasing Cobalt Networks, a leader in that marketplace.

ONE SUN: they had more than one hardware development team, they could have increased the number of offerings. Summary : We feel the positives are substantial, and most of the not-so-positives are hindsight-based rantings. We expect Sun to reap significant rewards from this acquisition. User Recommendations Present Cobalt customers should see little, if any, effect. Customers considering Cobalt, but wary of their long-term viability, should be reassured. Sun customers wanting server appliances should be

Why One Number Is Not Enough
To build customer happiness, companies must understand what is important to them and how the organization can deliver. With this information, staff can remain focused on driving up the quality of delivered experience, thereby impressing customers enough to get them to recommend and repurchase. The success of an organization in this respect is almost never the result of one factor.

The Many Faces of PLMPart One: Event Summary
Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software solutions, like many of the application suites that have come before it, are a collection of different offerings that serve a common theme and contribute to overlapping value propositions. Like previous application suites, there is strategic value in approaching PLM as a set of inter-related requirements as opposed to just a collection of function-specific requirements. This is a report on the observations from the 2003 Product Development Manager’s Association (PDMA) Conference.

ONE SUN: conference is that under one roof an attendee could listen to the value of implementing effective Stage-Gate Processes to better execute product development programs, learn about how better Portfolio Management can improve the value of the choice of products a company chooses to take to market, and also explore how Design for Cost / Design for Manufacturability concepts can help to decrease product costs. Seeing a collection of very different, but inter-related aspects of product development in one place

IBM Aims Renamed UNIX Server at Sun
In the latest phase of its campaign to unseat Sun as the dominant Internet server brand, IBM has released a slew of performance benchmarks for its 'eServer pSeries' UNIX server.

ONE SUN: IBM News Releases (10/16/2000) One issue which detracts from these figures is the price/performance ratio. This was accomplished with a five-year equipment cost listed in the TPCC report at just under $7 million. Upon closer inspection: we think this is a neat trick, considering that the base cost of the server hardware (again, from the report, and without adding the costs for Oracle or for client hardware) is over $9.3 million. The difference? Deep discount - over $4.5 million. Now, discounts are
