Can You Hear Me Now: The True Role of Voice-directed Picking in Warehouse Management
Although voice-directed picking may take distributors to higher logistics levels someday, operations managers should try listening to their warehouse personnel for now. Warehouse workers are the real experts on a company's warehouse, its product, and its customer.

RPF: keying digits into the RF device, or on reading or writing a pick ticket. Hands-free and eyes-free also means fewer accidents on the job. An operator driving a forklift into a rack because he or she was looking at a screen, or a picker inadvertently walking into product for the same reason are just a couple examples of accidents that can be avoided. Eyes-free is also a significant feature because most picking errors happen in RF and paper environments when the device is being returned to the holster. For

Warehouse Management Systems by the Numbers
When it comes to warehouse management systems (WMS), the stats are both shocking and thought-provoking. And although you don't see these stats in the marketing brochures of WMS vendors, you need to think about them before you purchase a WMS.

RPF: according to Benchmarking Warehouse Performance, a study by the Georgia Institute of Technology (Atlanta, Georgia [US]). That probably speaks directly to why you re reading this article. You may have been wondering if a WMS system could make your warehouse more efficient. Interestingly, about 30 percent of the 600,000 warehouses in the US have a WMS system installed. As the guy on the television show says, Hmm What are the numbers telling us? Only 30 percent of warehouses are efficient, and 30

Analyzing Manhattan Associates’ Supply Chain Platform Play – Part 1 » The TEC Blog
a full WMS with RF scanners, but rather just light functionality for receiving and shipping. The only applications that are not yet fully on the SCPP platform are demand planning and inventory optimization. But the indications that I got at the very recent National Retail Federation (NRF) BIG Retail Show 2011 were that these solutions might also be platform-enabled by the Momentum 2011 conference in late May 2011, and the conference tag will be “Platform Thinking Activated.” We will have to stay tuned

Should interBiz Mean Intelligence And Prediction Beyond ERP?
Although interBiz has spouted an interesting value proposition to many enterprise applications users, the company still has to address some potential stumbling blocks in order to clear the path to its applications business success.

RPF: a comparison of their performance against the industry average and best-in-class. The benchmarking report also estimates the financial benefits of performance improvement. interBiz has determined that there are approximately 35,000 distributors and wholesalers in the durable goods industry. The research has also reportedly found that the velocity of eCommerce has caused inventory and safety-stock levels to rise; that orders have become smaller and more frequent and consequently more expensive to process
