PeopleSoft on Client/Server and Database Issues
To address questions for a TEC customer, we interviewed PeopleSoft's Michael Daniels. The conversation covered issues in the areas of client/server architecture and database management as they relate to the PeopleSoft Enterprise Resource Planning suite of products.

SAP PEOPLESOFT MARKET SHARE: Daniels: As an example, SAP does all the processing on the application server, so there is a great deal of packet traffic between the client and the application server to draw the screen. The packets are smaller, but there are a greater number of them. PeopleSoft sends panel groups all at once, after that point only data is exchanged. We feel this is a more efficient approach. In addition, compression can be configured using the BEA transaction monitor provided with the product. TEC Analysis: Customers

Analyzing MAPICS Further Steps After FrontstepPart Three: Market Impact
Much has changed, while much has remained the same at MAPICS during 2003. With the February finalization of the Frontstep acquisition, MAPICS has become quite a large enterprise applications provider, which positions the vendor near (if not at) the top among vendors that focus on the mid-size discrete manufacturing market.

SAP PEOPLESOFT MARKET SHARE: the likes of Oracle, SAP, and PeopleSoft. Production management remains MAPICS strongest spot, and thus it has often been implemented only in manufacturing divisions of large global organizations that use a tier one ERP product for corporate financials or HR applications. This concludes Part Three of a five-part note. Parts One and Two detailed recent events. Part Four will continue the discussion of the market impact. Part Five will discuss challenges and user recommendations.

Stalled Oracle Fumbling For A Jump-Start KitPart 3: Market Impact
Oracle remains a true IT powerhouse with fingers in many pies other than databases, such as application servers, and development tools, which ranks it as an enterprise infrastructure provider, together with SAP, IBM at a higher and, and Microsoft at the lower end of the market. However, Oracle may be getting very uncomfortable with how its protracted disappointing revenue results (possible the worst in a decade) jeopardizes its No. 2 position in the applications market. It seemed all but inconceivable over a year ago that PeopleSoft could be so close to snatching the No. 2 position from Oracle.

SAP PEOPLESOFT MARKET SHARE: to many rivals (e.g., SAP , Siebel , PeopleSoft, J.D. Edwards , Baan , Manugistics , Intentia , IFS , etc.) that have not only stemmed sequential declines in sales (if they had it at all), but are also anticipating a more prosperous year of trading ahead. It is likely that in part Oracle has become the victim of its own success of overselling its product over a year ago. Oracle cannot afford to gamble any longer with its customers willingness to entrust it to support their complete applications,

PeopleSoft Supply Chain Is Music To Mid Market Ears
PeopleSoft has once again proven the naysayers wrong about its ability to sell supply chain management. Its Accelerated Supply Chain Management offering bundles core e-business functionality into a scaled down package for the mid market, a segment that not even SCM market leader i2 has conquered.

SAP PEOPLESOFT MARKET SHARE: rivals like Oracle and SAP . The win at O-Cedar Brands proves otherwise and is not merely a fluke. PeopleSoft has a distinct advantage over the pure-plays by its ability to offer a broader range of applications in conjunction with its supply chain solution. The components of Accelerated SCM that offer the most differentiation are certainly the financials, such as general ledger, payables, and receivables. These represent critical areas in any organization that usually are not well integrated to
