The "S" in SAP Doesn't Stand for Security (that goes for PeopleSoft too)

During the course of product evaluations for a customer, the Technology Evaluation Center has uncovered a potential security hole in SAP R/3's three-tier architecture. SAP has revealed that they expect the database or third party products to handle security between the application server and the database server. If the client does not take these extra measures, the master password for the SAP database instance travels over the network in the clear, and can be captured. PeopleSoft has the same issue.

sap peoplesoft  Recommendations Customers using either SAP or PeopleSoft in a three-tier configuration should be very careful to employ a third-party encryption product that has been certified by the ERP vendor. In the absence of this, or a secure database client (i.e. Secure Oracle), a serious security breach could occur. Read More

PeopleSoft 8 Launched - Anything to Write Home About?

PeopleSoft, once a high flyer owing to its congenial culture and slick ERP product, has unveiled a number of new, possibly revolutionary enterprise applications that it hopes will help it end a protracted dry season and put it back on the ERP top chart. The company has invested two years and over a half billion dollars to develop the product. It has now emerged with a new platform, a new set of products and a new attitude of lambasting competition.

Like SAP and Oracle, PeopleSoft should also carefully reevaluate its product migration strategy from current product instances (7.5 and earlier), in order not to alienate and disillusion its loyal customer base. PeopleSoft 8 has allegedly disconcerted some users because its licensing model requires that existing customers re-license its older software, rather than pay a lower upgrade charge as with previous updates. Some customers may see this as only another hefty investment Read More

'Collaborative Commerce': ERP, CRM, e-Proc, and SCM Unite! A Series Study: PeopleSoft

PeopleSoft has risen from its relatively humble origins in the Human Resource Management Systems (HRMS) arena, its sole focus as it begun life in 1987. Over the course of a decade or so, it added Supply Chain Management and Financials to its list of application offerings. In the last few years, in the face of slowing cash flows from its traditional strongholds, it has gone full bore toward Internet-based enterprise-wide - even cross-enterprise - solutions, trying to enter the game and be competitive with other top tier ERP-turned Collaborative Commerce vendors. Showing fiscal growth and, very-recently, notably-improved market acceptance, Peoplesoft may be the enterprise software turnaround story of the last decade.

While Oracle and PeopleSoft Are to Fuse, Competitors Ruse--Leaving Customers (Somewhat) Bemused

The recent merger of Oracle and PeopleSoft requires, among many other things, finding a perfect balance between cultivating the install base versus the zeal for snagging brand new customers.
