PeopleSoft Plays Hardball
No more a nice guy with PeopleSoft! Its strong Q4 2000 results and alleged string of wins over its direct competitors have stirred up some emotions and knee-jerk dismissive reactions. Whatever the case may be, look for a vigorous PeopleSoft participation in many future software selection deals.

PeopleSoft on Client/Server and Database Issues
To address questions for a TEC customer, we interviewed PeopleSoft's Michael Daniels. The conversation covered issues in the areas of client/server architecture and database management as they relate to the PeopleSoft Enterprise Resource Planning suite of products.

SAP VS ORACLE VS PEOPLESOFT: relationships kept in place. SAP extracts ABAP into binary code then puts it in a queue to be manually moved into the next system. With this method it is impossible to determine the interdependencies in the queue. We believe PeopleSoft s method is superior. TEC Analysis: Prospective customers should carefully investigate the method ERP vendors use to propagate changes between test and production. Relationships between program modules should be made easy to track and control. Question: Another ERP vendor h

The S in SAP Doesn t Stand for Security (that goes for PeopleSoft too)
During the course of product evaluations for a customer, the Technology Evaluation Center has uncovered a potential security hole in SAP R/3's three-tier architecture. SAP has revealed that they expect the database or third party products to handle security between the application server and the database server. If the client does not take these extra measures, the master password for the SAP database instance travels over the network in the clear, and can be captured. PeopleSoft has the same issue.

PeopleSoft is currently developing the PeopleSoft Business Network (PSBN), which should incorporate business transactions, knowledge and analytical tools within and beyond enterprise boundaries. Oracle Flying High on Q3 Report: Is Gold All That Glitters?
On March 15, shares of Oracle surged after the company plowed past Wall Street estimates and reported strong database software sales fueling a solid third-quarter profit. However, Oracle has also confirmed that it is refocusing its European applications division and has hinted that it may reduce the unit's workforce.

SAP VS ORACLE VS PEOPLESOFT: its ERP competitors, particularly SAP, in its quest for CRM market share. If one should judge by the past, it is to expect product quality problems with its immature product release as well as uneven functionality across the functional breadth. Oracle s modest results in the European market, with much more cautious buyers ( seeing is believing attitude) speak for that. Last but not least, Oracle functionality is still very horizontal, except in its traditionally strong verticals like telecommunications,

Collaborative Commerce : ERP, CRM, e-Proc, and SCM Unite! A Series Study: PeopleSoft
PeopleSoft has risen from its relatively humble origins in the Human Resource Management Systems (HRMS) arena, its sole focus as it begun life in 1987. Over the course of a decade or so, it added Supply Chain Management and Financials to its list of application offerings. In the last few years, in the face of slowing cash flows from its traditional strongholds, it has gone full bore toward Internet-based enterprise-wide - even cross-enterprise - solutions, trying to enter the game and be competitive with other top tier ERP-turned Collaborative Commerce vendors. Showing fiscal growth and, very-recently, notably-improved market acceptance, Peoplesoft may be the enterprise software turnaround story of the last decade.

SAP VS ORACLE VS PEOPLESOFT: marketing-oriented companies such as SAP and Oracle . It was being run by David A. Duffield, who built a friendly culture for both employees and customers. The company peaked financially in 1998, when it was, for a brief time, second only to SAP in enterprise software sales. But the walls came tumbling down in 1999, as the market for giant software packages that handled corporate internals from Human Resources to Supply Chain Management dried up, and the lure of dot-com riches danced in departing
