Program Testing Methodology Part One: Preparing for Testing

Program testing and debugging is one of the most critical aspects of implementing a computer system. Without programs which properly work, the system will never process information and produce the output for which it was designed. Testing procedures should be established and testing roles should be demarcated between the programmer and the analyst. Once this is done, test data that can test the limits of the program should then be created.

After a clean compilation is obtained, that is, one without any compilation diagnostics, the programmer should then desk check his or her program. Desk-checking refers to the process of playing computer with the source code/listing, that is, following every step in the program and analyzing what will take place as the routine is processed. Desk-checking is probably the most useful tool Read More

A Suggested Workflow to Complement Issue Management Systems

Let’s imagine, for instance, a customer relationship management (CRM) system and

test tool reports  when they deploy the latest version of the software on a server. More cases accumulate in the newly acquired CRM. A week later, the case with the lowest priority has not been addressed and the phone keeps ringing. Customer support employees are overwhelmed. There’s no secret in that. But, can a tool that tracks customer support issues help them single-handedly? I propose a workflow that can complement an issue management system. However, this is not definitive advice. What I’m attempting here is to Read More
