The Marriage of Virtual Machines, Software as a Service, and Cloud Computing
New technology, such as virtual machines and high-speed internet communication, is leading to wider remote application hosting. Here is a tutorial-level

What is in the flat file is the operating system and application that are ready to run. Product Offering in the Cloud Suppose an ERP vendor provides system-hosting for clients with similar needs. When a client needs access to its ERP system, it initiates its VM system. The hypervisor assigns a slot and reads the flat file, previously created. About 10 seconds later, control is passed to the active application in

Learning Management Suite (LMS)

These are tools for managing, creating, scheduling training or learning in your organization. The terminology varies from vendor to vendor. Learning management systems (LMS) typically help to manage both classroom and on-line learning. They do not normally include content creation or management tools but may in some cases. Some LMSs may manage just classroom or just e-learning rather than both. Some LMSs may also include content authoring and managment and virtual classrooms. Learning content management systems (LCMS) emphasize the management of content for courses/training/learning. In most cases, they include content authoring tools. In some cases, they may also include some of the features of LMSs. Content authoring tools are often provided as part of an LCMS. They may also be stand-alone products. Virtual classrooms (web conferencing tools) normally are separate third party offerings but may be included as part of a suite of tools. Suites of tools include features of at least two or more of the above categories. While some companies offer just LMS or LCMS systems others offer suites of products, which provide all or most of the features of the other tools. Suites combine several capabilities of learning management--usually two or more of the following: learning management, classroom training management, e-learning management, custom content creation, learning content management, learning object repositories, or virtual classrooms.

How Do You Categorize Servers?

The term 'PC Server' encompasses a wide range of computing hardware features and functionality. So, how can the entire range be subdivided into more manageable groups? This note discusses one way of separating them, and the functional characteristics associated with each group.

virtual disk drives  Do You Categorize Servers? How Do You Categorize Servers? R. Krause - September 5, 2000 Overview In the world of Wintel-based Servers (a/k/a PC Servers), the types of machines offered are as varied as the applications for which they are used. Although it is risky to apply terms too broadly, we can break the server market into six segments, and provide a guide to the features and characteristics of each. (There are other ways the market can be segmented - we have chosen this because it more accessible Read More

Who Could Object to Faster, More Responsive Supply Chains?

Today, global manufacturers have all but abandoned traditional vertical supply chain management to adopt the more flexible horizontal and virtual supply chain concepts. But in changing their business model, they have given up a fair amount of control over their supply chain processes.

virtual disk drives  SCM Trends: Horizontal and Virtual Supply Chains Vertical integration generally went out of vogue as corporations expanded and as global supply chains became over-extended. Indeed, lately it has become quite difficult for any complex corporation to bring together the expertise needed to excel in all elements and countless activities of the supply chain. Therefore, most modern corporations have turned to outsourcing those aspects of their business in which they believe themselves to be least effective. Read More
