Maximizing Performance of ATCA in Application-ready Platforms
Thanks to pressures in the telecom equipment manufacturing industry, application-ready platforms (ARPs) in Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture (ATCA) are increasingly indispensable. ARPs must provide standards-based platforms to support diverse sets of applications. The ATCA ARP provides such a platform, but in light of the ATCA specifications that define the basis for the platform, ARP implementations still present some interesting challenges.

Wintel Tries to “Embrace and Extend” the English Language
Intel and Microsoft are getting into the server appliance game, only this appliance is really a small server. But if they want to misuse the term, who are we to argue?

Does Microsoft Have Something Against 64-Bit Processors?
More cracks appear in the Wintel duolith, as Linux appears to be the first OS “ready for prime time” on Intel’s 64-bit “Itanium” processor. Despite Microsoft’s statements to the contrary, Linux may also be the only 64-bit OS on Itanium for awhile.

WINTEL PLATFORMS: makes interesting fodder for Wintel conspiracy freaks, there is minimal benefit to Intel in doing this. (In the short term; in the long-term, Redmond might consider exacting a penalty for Intel s lack of assistance .) In addition, Intel has shown an increasing willingness to work closely with Linux factions. Of course, we are tactfully ignoring the possibility that Intel will miss its delivery date anyway. [Less than 10% probability] Microsoft does the crash program thing, but accepts a three-month

Optimizing Server Infrastructure through OS Portability
Data centers are complex mixtures of legacy platforms, hardware, operating systems (OS), data, and applications. They are inflexible, costly, and difficult to manage, so instead of optimizing the current OS, users are adding new ones.
